Welcome Post

Welcome everyone,

To my educational school blog. In ICT class we were to make a blog- this is my first blog. My name is Christine and I go to a secondary school. We created this blog on an individual website of our own. In this blog we will write all about school and the activities throughout the year. After I finish writing the activities in the year, this will be a record of my progress during each school year and term. This will also tell me how my blog has improved as time pass (how my English has improved). This blog will also develop a skill that could help me write and revise what I did earlier. It will be a good habit to develop.

Thank you for reading my first blog I have ever made.

How to Get Apart a PC Hardware

During the previous lessons that we have learnt all about the internet.
We didn't just look at how the internet works but also what the computer is doing with the components to show us the things that shows up on the screen. Moreover, about the concepts of how we get the applications and softwares that we have.

As we are learning about the internet we first learnt about the 'Four Layer Model'. It explains thoroughly of how the computer works. The first layer is people because we are the people that is using the internet. The second layer is the network. The network includes the internet, the local network, domain name, IP address and ping.
In the third layer is the software which contains the operation system, BIOS and the applications. Lastly the is the Hardware. The hardware includes many components that make up the computer. It keeps it working.

There are variable things that keeps the PC hardware working. Like the wires, air vent, power supply, CPU (central processing unit), ram, hard disk drive and the mother board.
However, one of the very important thing on the hardware is the case. It keeps every together and makes it harder to over heat.

The wires connects things together and lets the PC function properly, the power supply provides the required power for us to turn on the laptop. As for the CPU, it is very important because it handles all the data and applications.
There is a very similar part called the hard disk drive (HDD), however the HDD only stores the data and softwares.

The mother board is another very important thing inside the hardware. Many wires and the CPU is attached to it. When you look at the mother board it looks like a small city, however it is similar because the data and information passes through the mother board, wires and many other components. Just like us traveling around but we are slower.
There is also another part that handles information, it is the ram however it also gives us a fast access to the internet. If you filled up all the spaces in the ram it will slow down unless you still have space to fit another ram. When you filled up the other slot and the also the spaces in the ram it may start deleting some of the information stored in it.
Lastly, the air vent. It is important that every computer has one so that it won't over heat easily as the other parts does its jobs. However, the air vent always captures many dust as it lets heat out. Sometimes when you hear your laptop creating a breathing sound it is cooling down the working components inside the case. Moreover, there is always a part where you can feel the heat of the components, it never melts that part of the case thanks to the air vent. If it were not there it may explode and hurt people.

Even though there are many different brands of PC they basically contain all of the above listed parts.
They might be put differently or designed differently but are highly similar.
This is what I have learnt in these few lessons based on software, hardware and firmware.
I personally don't have much interest in this subject or unit. However, it is getting quite interesting knowing what is going on when I am using my laptop and typing this piece of text. Or when you are opening this webpage to look at this post. Before this unit I never knew anything about this nor did I ever think about it. Now that I know I will remember and know why sometimes the internet is fast, slow and a brief idea why errors occur. Even though, I do not particularly like this unit I still think it is quite useful to learn these facts.

Year 8 ICT : Homework Representation in Media

In todays lesson I have learnt a lot about media. I have learnt that media is not just a way of communication. Media is purposely structured by its producers, they have been changed in either perspective or in other aspects. The producers achieve this goal by cropping, targeting, captioning, branding, framing and censoring.

Media gives us (the audience) many information of reality and provides us with more knowledge and experience. Reading about an event or watching a documentary extends our learning resources without traveling to the far distance. Moreover, it expands our knowledge, however, it is restricted by the producers. The producers have intentionally composed the media to make us receive specific information.

There many categories in sorting human beings. This is related to media because it is a key issue when discussing representation. As we now know that media has been purposely structured, the producers will also shape the concepts of what being a male or female is. In media they use male and female role models to create the audience’s perspectives and concepts. However, the role models doesn’t actually represent all the different ranges or types of male or female there are around the world. Therefore, it is evident that media has been intentionally composed.

ICT: Misleading Websites (Wikileaks)

Google Docx.:

Powerpoint:

Information Sheet:

Presentation Script:

Reflection
This work was quite interesting even though we didn't get chosen to be the group that may present it to other schools. During the process of researching and creating the powerpoint was quite easy because most of the information were about perspectives of different people and how they feel about the wikileaks website. The presentation was quite challenging for me because I get very nervous and have stage fright, I can't present to large groups of people. I messed up a little bit but it was a nice experience in a long time to give a presentation.

5 Google Search Tips

ICT Homework
Task: Write down 5 google search tips on a new clean post.

1. Use the words that are most likely to appear on the page. For example, instead of saying [ my head hurts ], say [ headache ], because that's the term a medical page will use.

2. Choose descriptive words. The more unique the word is the more likely you are to get relevant results.

3. Describe what you need with as few terms as possible. The goal of each word in a query is to focus it further. Since all words are used, each additional word limits the results. If you limit too much, you will miss a lot of useful information. The main advantage to starting with fewer keywords.

4. Keep in mind, however, that even if the word has the correct meaning but it is not the one most people use, it may not match the pages you need. For example, [ celebrity ringtones ] is more descriptive and specific than [ celebrity sounds ].

5. Phrase search ("")
By putting double quotes around a set of words, you are telling Google to consider the exact words in that exact order without any change. Google already uses the order and the fact that the words are together as a very strong signal and will stray from it only for a good reason, so quotes are usually unnecessary. By insisting on phrase search you might be missing good results accidentally. For example, a search for [ "Alexander Bell" ] (with quotes) will miss the pages that refer to Alexander G. Bell.
